Social media – its just not cricketPosted on
Himsworths were at Edgbaston Cricket Ground today. Sadly not with willow in hand. Matt Himsworth did an educational session on Social Media and Reputation with a group of 20 young cricketers who have signed professional terms with clubs across the county circuit.
The session was part of the Professional Cricketers Association’s excellent Rookie Camp which inducts new players with first class advice on the skills they will need to succeed in the modern game.
Having spent so much time at football training grounds in recent weeks (Cobham, Melwood and London Colney) it was nice to experience a different sporting environment. Whilst cricket doesn’t suffer the same media intrusion as football there are still numerous examples of social media crises that can severely damage a career and, in a game where long haul touring is the norm, players are often online more than their football or rugby peers.
